More information

Janice Clark notes that this hymn is sung each year at the close of the service marking the World Day Of Prayer (in Scotland, “Women’s” World Day of Prayer). For some years the second line in verse 4 has been inclusivised – amending “The sun that bids us rest is waking / our brethren ‘neath the western sky” to “your children ‘neath the western sky”.

We have also received this alternative inclusivisation (again from a World Day of Prayer source):
“The sun that bids us rest is waking / our friends beneath the western sky.”
